Simple Medicinal Onion Recipes from the Garden

Earache Remedy

Allium cepa

Papago Onion

Cut a small onion in half
Warm the onion to the touch
Wrap in damp cotton gauze
Apply cut end to the ear
As onions are anti-inflammatory and contain Thiosulfates-sulfur compounds-this reduces the pain of an earache.

Decongestant and Expectorant

Allium cepa

Papago Onion

Peel a raw medium to large onion
Remove ends
Slice onion
Place slices in glass jar,
alternating with thin drizzle of honey or sugar
Seal jar with lid and place in a cool cabinet for two weeks
Strain concoction for its syrup
Use by the spoonful as decongestant or expectorant
